Renae M. Mayer, MD

Dr. Renae Mayer graduated from New Mexico State University with Bachelors degrees in Biology and Psychology. While still an undergraduate, she was awarded a National Science Foundation Research Grant to study Mycobacterium avium, a drug resistant bacterium which causes TB. Her interest in Biomedical Science research led her to Tulsa to pursue Graduate studies in Pharmacology at ORU School of Medicine. Her Master's degree research investigated behavioral effects of encephalins and endorphins while her PhD studies investigated the emerging field of Psychoneuroimmunopharmacology. Dr. Mayer went on to earn an MD degree at the University of Oklahoma. She subsequently completed Residency in Internal Medicine at OU Tulsa College of Medicine where she was chief resident. Dr. Mayer focuses her Internal Medicine practice on the diagnosis and management of hematological disorders. To her patients who require bone marrow biopsies, she provides the highest level of care by bringing the latest techniques for this procedure to Cancer Care Associates. Dr. Mayer works closely with Oncologists to provide supportive care to the treating cancer patient.

Over the years she has also been involved with many clinical research trials.  She also has special interests in clinical pain, mood/sleep disorders and patient-physician communication. She maintains memberships in the Tulsa County Medical Society, Oklahoma State Medical Society, American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Mayer is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
